Some dream of traveling and some dream of just taking it extremely easy all the time. Quiet time or busy time, it is your choice.

For me, I was so wrapped up in my work as an engineer that I did not give it much time on deciding what I wanted to do after I retire.

This was a time of evaluation for me personally and my wife.

I have never been a person that can not be busy or active. I get bored and anxious if I do not have something to do. When I first retired, I had time to develop new hobbies such as woodworking. I found this a challenge.

Recently, my wife and I have decided to travel the US in a motor home and see upfront this beautiful country we live in. So far, we have met some very friendly people even though we have only been doing this for a short time.

We have found and met many like-minded retired people that are doing the same adventure as us. It is pretty amazing how many retired individuals that are living the retired RV lifestyle.

So all that you need to do is a little of soul-searching and deciding what exactly it is that you want to do for the last 25-30 years of your life.

Reconnecting

” Twice As Much Husband For Half As Much Money”, this is your payoff. Retirement can be a time for reconnecting with your spouse or friends.

Many people will spend their time to traveling to and connecting with their grandchildren that might live far away.

I have been lucky as my grand kids live close to me, but now that I am living in a RV, this has been an adjustment not being close to them. Thank goodness for Facetime!

Return To My Hobbies

I used to play golf. The keyword is “used to” because since I have retired, I have not played any golf. My back is feeling better for it, but I do miss the game (even as bad as I was).

What are your hobbies?

Have you decided to retire and play more golf (if that is your game)?

Everyone needs a hobby.

Before your retire, a hobby will give you down time from the stresses of your job or career.

In retirement, you will have time to do more of your hobby is you wish. This will bring enjoyment and time for you to spend more time with your friends.

I personally found that woodworking was a great release and stress reliever. It was a challenge for me to learn something different and creating something from raw wood.

I surprised myself on what I can create and enjoy. Recently I have been reading and writing. I find this very rewarding and I hope this will help me stay mentally sharp as I age.

Traveling Is My Gig

About 3 months ago, I leased my house to my younger daughter and her family. My wife and I moved into a motor home. Our first trip was to the Texas Hill country. This was a mistake as it was hot being in the middle of the summer.

Our travels have taken us to Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Kentucky. We have dodged Hurricane Florence. We have bathed in the Hot Springs of Arkansas and traveled the windy roads of the Great Smoky Mountains.

We saw a black bear (way to close), but took pictures just the same.

Our plan is to travel the US and Canada over the next few years as long as our health allows us to do so. There is so much to see here in the US alone. We have just scratched the surface.

Retirement Is A Full Time Job

Retirement will be different for everyone as it is a personal choice on how you spend that time. You have worked hard and now is the time for yourself and your family.

You deserve the right to do what you want when you want. I spend my time traveling, sightseeing, resting, and relaxing.

I also spend some of my time with my new hobby of reading, researching, and writing. The internet has allowed me to pursue that hobby as long as I have an internet connection.

Doing what I want, when I want.
